The Protein Masterclass 101: Grass Fed Animal Protein, Plant Protein, & Protein Powders. Dr Van Vliet PhD

This is the protein episode. The diet wars are raging stronger than ever, so I receive a lot of questions about which diet is best and what food to eat for weight loss or if plant protein is really as good as animal protein. I’m not picking sides either, everyone is unique and has the autonomy to make their own choices, but I do want to be on the side of science and facts.

Well, if you want to know the answer to all those questions, and much more, don’t miss this episode with expert human nutrition scientist Dr Van Vliet.

Dr. Stephan van Vliet is a nutrition scientist with metabolomics expertise in Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences (NDFS). He earned his PhD in Kinesiology as an ESPEN Fellow from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and received training at the Washington University in St Louis School of Medicine and Duke University School of Medicine.

Dr. van Vliet’s research is performed at the nexus of agricultural and human health. He routinely collaborates with farmers, ecologists, and agricultural scientists to study critical linkages between agricultural production methods, the nutrient density of food, and human health.

Join us as we explore:

  • If it actually matters to eat grass-fed beef vs factory farming grain fed and finished beef, but why the first step in nutrition has nothing to do with that.

  • Why many compounds may not be “essential” for human health but are still crucial for the body
  • Everything protein – how much to eat, it is absorbed, how does our body use it, and where to get your protein from.
  • Powders, shakes, supplements – are they good, bad, or it’s complicated? The right ones? The wrong ones?
